04/03/2024 FIP Warriors

Today I'm celebrating my FIP Warriors.

The war began back on September 30, 2023. Markus was my first. Tiny and sickly since the day I rescued him, he was JessiKat's brother and I had to save him. Their sister, Mickey, was diagnosed 20 days after he went into observation. Then Sugar. Then Ray.

Little Funyun was already in her forever home but I took her back to treat her. Then Riley.

I'm happy to say that my first 4 are cured, Luke will most likely have his cure date on March 12th, Funyun will go into observation on the 13th, and Riley is responding well after a week on a black market miracle.

I say this again because I always get asked: FIP is NOT contagious. 5-8% of cats are genetically predispositioned for the feline coronavirus to mutate into Feline Infectious Peritonitis. Almost every cat has been exposed to feline coronavirus. Stress, trauma, vaccines, surgery, even rehoming can cause the mutation BUT the cat has to be genetically predispositioned.

FIP was once 100% fatal. I lost 2 cats in my life to it. Now there's a treatment with a 90% cure rate.

It's saving lives and I live with that proof every day.
