15/07/2024 Gia is under observation Update

I just visited Gia and took all his meds up.

He is stable but his rr is still around 50. Shift change happens in a few minutes so I wait to hear from the doctor.

If he can wean off oxygen he can come home. That's about all I know right now.

For those who don't know:

Gia was born with a very rare congenital birth defect; his left lung never inflated when he was born. It caused infections and complications. When he was 5 months old the entire lung was removed. Now, at almost 5 years, that remaining lung has asthma and he takes inhalers to keep him stable.

He went into respiratory distress on Tuesday night because of the power loss from Hurricane Beryl. He was boarded at the vet Wednesday until yesterday. Once home his respiration went up to 64 (35 is normal) and was crashing. He's been in ER since 7pm last night. His case is so unique that there is no information or prognosis on longevity.

That's where we're at for now.

Please help if you can. I am so thankful for the donations that have come in but ER is ridiculously expensive. There was no choice though. And I forgot last night that I haven't even paid the regular vet bill for 5 days of boarding.

Any amount helps! The rescue accounts have been destroyed.

I will update later and hope that he will be able to come home today.
