So I ask for donations a lot.
Yes. It's how rescues and shelters survive. I know the economy is horrible; I live it. But I can't be all laissez-faire and just say I'm not going to try. I HAVE to try every day.
That being said.... "You probably wouldn't have to ask so much if you were an official charity" was a comment I got from a complete stranger.
I AM! I went through the process, paid a lawyer, and have been an "official" charity since June 18, 2021. I file taxes for 501c3 with both federal and state. I have files of receipts. I have business accounts. I don't know how much more "official" I can get.
I don't understand how people can be so judgemental when they're not reading or paying attention. This isn't a hobby! Maybe educate yourself before you say something uninformed to someone you don't know.
Regardless, I don't get to relax and watch donations pour in because of tax status. Being "official" hasn't changed the need to ask for help. Small or large, it's what shelters and rescues must do to ensure the care of animals in need.
And BTW, there are tons of people doing the exact same thing as me that aren't "official" and it shouldn't take away from the help they need. We are all in the same boat. We are doing the same thing.
OK, rant over. Happy Monday! Trick has labs tomorrow. Sugar is doing great and her ear is healing. Sandy is acting better and is actually being good with meds!
Help the rescue, or ANY rescue, if you can! 😻
