A year ago today... 3 letters.... One of the most lethal things I could be told... FIP.
Markus was dying. I knew there was a black market treatment that was saving cats worldwide and I connected with a group that could help.
Driving back from getting emergency meds I wondered how I would explain, if I got pulled over, the bag of unmarked liquid vials and needles.
Markus has been cured for 6 months now. He's healthier than he ever was and you would never know how sick he had been. The only lasting effect is that he has chronic rhinosinusitis; he snots a lot.
Today also marks the beginning of a nightmare that seems to have no end. 4 more cases of FIP occurred, my shot skills increased, and my hope of this all being over this year were shredded. I know what to do but I am by no means an expert. I learn as much as I can. The bottom line is that FIP is no longer a guaranteed death sentence for cats.
I thank everyone here for helping me save 5 lives from this deadly disease. Yeah, I did the work but the community funded all the medication and extra expenses. Each cat, depending on the type of treatment and duration, costs at least $2,500. Mickey was the most because of her treatment being extended 2 months.
YOU made it possible! So don't praise me for what I do. Give yourselves credit! YOU save lives, too!
Luke is doing better than I expected with shots. They hurt but he takes them fairly well. His temperature is now normal and today his belly is noticeably smaller. I did order a "purrito wrap" for him because the small cat bag is still too big for him.
Thank you so much for donations yesterday to recoup the medical expenses. I still have to get more sharps, Churus, and will have to get labs and more meds. Anything you can do to help Luke's treatment or the rescue overall is appreciated. No amount is too small and every share helps spread the word.
Thank you for sticking with us through my rants, emergencies, and wins.
Be pawsome! Do pawsome! This is the way.
